I’d have given it more stars if not for the ending, which I didn’t care for. The entire last chapter was not a thing for me. Book is beautifully written tho, and premise very interesting.

English Review below.

A beautifully written short novel about a woman who finds out her husband has been cheating on her, and how that leads her to a though spiral regarding her husband, her life as a mother of two boys, remembering her mother's abuse at the hands of her father, and her deep and concerning life-long fascination with harpies. When she confronts her husband, she thinks of a deal to get back at him, which is to hurt three times, and we see how that shapes her metamorphosis.

The writing style is amazing, the chapters are very short, split into a part of the current events, and a short part mainly about her memories, largely concerning harpies myths and her thoughts. It's a regular story about infidelity, but what puts it on the top for me is the lyrical prose. I have to say I wasn't a big fan of the ending, because I'm still confused on what actually happened, and I wanted more grave consequences, but it still a very good book. A little warning though: it's a bit gory and there's some details about blood, so be careful.

Devastating is the word that comes to mind. This little novel packs an impressive punch, its so introspective and honest and eventually just devastating. Loved it.

What a unique approach to telling a story about the downward spiral into madness and despair.

Once I got into the writing style I couldn't put the book down. It was like watching an accident happen. Unable to look away from it and still feeling as if I should stop looking.
This is the kind of book you should just dive into without knowing too much about it but I want to include some trigger warnings for everyone who is interested:

It's the world's most okay-est book, but I would not say it was worth the read. The book is short and quickly paced and I've underlined a few nice prose here and there, but overall nothing happened -- not even in the typical lit-fic sense.

The premise is simple, but can easily be made interesting: a man cheats on a woman, and she decides to stay with him. But if you're going to do that, give me a reason (this can be negative) she should stay. And I mean a reason story-wise, not a reason in defence of the husband.

This book did none of that, instead the spineless main character Lucy harms her wet-rag of a husband in the most literal, predictable and mundane ways and neither of them learn anything. In the beginning you ask yourself the question why she would stay with him, in the end that question isn't answered. Amp up the toxicity, weird co-dependance- the horror. Especially if you draw on the imagery of a harpy. Just give me something, please. Everything was wayyy too tame for its proposed subject matter and therefore it didn't get Its point across.

In the end I think it all boils down to: this wasn't weird enough and I think the author was either cowardis or deeply uncreative.
