First of all, Skyward is far from my favorite Sanderson series - I always enjoyed it, but there always were some problems with a few things that made me not like it as much as the Cosmere works, for example.

Well, I'm happy to say this book fixes most of the problems. Janci Patterson did an incredible work with those character - that where there before, but never that well developed. While FM is the main character here, the book also focuses on a couple other characters, and does a wonderful work with that.

As for the good in the series, the space battles and the worldbuilding, they are still here, and well represented. Great battles, a lot of new info, and good plot development.

I'm actually more hyped now for the other Skyward novellas (and the third book!) than I was before. Great work!

Bringing Janci to co-write the Skyward universe was an amazing decision. If there was one thing that was bothering me deeply in the Skyward series was that Spensa didn't really sound very natural, but Janci nailed FM's voice in Sunreach. And despite me taking ages to finish reading the book, it's actually REALLY good. The only reason I didn't give it a higher rate is because the romance aspect of the book (which tends to be my least favorite thing in YA books) dragged the story down.

Now I'm off to read ReDawn!

Okay, I need this to be about 200 pages longer. I adored FM's story and personality as the slug rangler. She's such a pure and warm character. I love seeing behind her confident visage that was given to us in Skyward. She's just a little softie and I love her. Gimme more please. these characters give me life.

5 stars for actual story line—the actual Sunreach part, and the prerequisites of getting there and back again). Minus 2 for pre-teen "romance" and other pretend-to-be YA stuff. Minus 1 for one dimensional characters.

En si el libro estuvo bien, excepto por agunos fallos en la continuidad de la historia que no encajan y no les encuentro el sentido. Se nota que el libro lo escribió solo Janci Patterson y no lo editaron correctamente.

3.5 but rounding up for overall story enjoyment and taynix trills.

I don't mind bringing in another author for these side stories, but I do wonder how I'd feel about this novella if it had been 100% Sanderson. It definitely felt more YA then the main novels, and I wasn't a fan of the rushed, clumsy romance. I usually wish Sanderson was a little more heavy handed with his romance, but this wasn't it. FM was fun to read about, but I didn't have much of an impression of her beforehand, so she was a little bland overall. I'm definitely more intrigued with the next two novellas and their characters.
