It's a very short read and is meant to be reread and be played all over again with different decisions. I didn't have time to print a character sheet so I just tried to memorize my stats as I moved along with the adventure. It was really awesome and such refresh from the usual novels and non-fictions I would be reading on a daily basis. I really hope there'd be other books like these!

Spent the last couple hours reading and thoroughly enjoying this cute lil choose-your-own-adventure book. For the first few times I did it straight up, choosing a character and going on their adventure, and this book did a great job of creating a sense of accomplishment in me when I made it to the end with them. But as I completed the rest, I really enjoyed all the side quests and characters I met - some of them very creepy and some adorably heartwarming. I picked this up when I got into grownup choose your own path books, but I think if there are middle gradeish+ aged fantasy loving youngsters in your life, this would be a fantastic pick for them.

Fun book. If you were going to make a choose-your-own adventure for adults, though, I wish there was more detail. I read for less than an hour and completed 5 adventures.

I have really NOT enjoyed a lot of choose your own adventure books for adults; I often try them out and just feel disappointed because, unfortunately, the nature of a book means that it's impossible to truly connect your story together because the story can't actively react to your choices, the way a similar story might if it was in a video game form, etc.

But this one was pretty fun! I enjoyed the added experience of having hit points and stats that could be the difference between which paths I could take and what endings I fell into. I ended up playing through the book with each premade character just to see which ones I could manage to get through safely or not, and enjoyed finding all of the different dungeon secrets on each readthrough; just like how I might feel while actually playing a video game or a tabletop roleplaying game.

This isn't a mindblowing story by any means, and in the end for this type of storytelling, I'd much prefer a much more interactive medium, but for what it is, it was a lot of fun to read, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys RPGs.

This was really fun! I have some D&D adventure books from the 80s, and this book have that same sort of vibe. You can either start with a pre-made character, or grab a die and roll stats for your own original character. The different paths are nicely varied, there are some interesting surprises, and I liked that you could actually use the treasure and objects you pick up during your adventure, and sell some items if you make it out of the dungeon. Definitely one of the better Choose Your Own Adventure style books I've read!

I will openly admit that I am a narrative adventure nerd. Tabletop RPGS, MMORPGs, JRPGs... you name it and I'm diving in. I love going on adventures. Growing up, however, I had no idea choose your own adventure novels existed. By the time I learned I could raid my older brother's bookshelves, he was past the "targeted age" for those books. So, I missed out.

Until recently. I found "Into the Dungeon" when I was looking for more not-specifically-made-for-kids choose your own adventures. As usual, Jeff Bezos's well-oiled machine found me, smacked me in the face with it, and gave me a nice little discount to give him my paycheck. Which I, of course, did.

This book absolutely did not disappoint. Unlike the Wizards of the Coast D&D based adventures, this one you get character sheets. You lose HP. You pick up weird little trinkets that come in handy in the oddest ways. You discover secrets that you die attempting to solve. You could get invited to a dinner party or you could get out and float on a river.

It is so well written. Conner did such a great job of writing things so that the adventure feels authentic no matter what path you have taken to get there. There aren't weird holes or stutters like "you brandish your sword" when... you never had a sword or you gave your sword away three steps ago.

If you are looking for a COYA, pick it up. It is fantastic.

I did actually read mine on my Kindle Paperwhite. Being able to click and go directly to where I wanted to go was amazing. Some of the pathways didn't work so well to get set-up (like going to look at character sheets and then trying to get back to where you were to continue the set-up process) but you can't fault that.
