What a beautiful book! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

I cried like a river that’s for sure. I also need to doodle myself a note saying “I talk like a river” now. The author’s end note on “How I Speak” really resonated with me. Stuttering is seen as unnatural to others, and I am so hyper aware of this oddity I bring with my spoken words, that this awareness makes me trip over my words even more. Sadly most people in my life chose to point out how “weird/wrong/strange/foreign” I sound. I wish someone could’ve told me I talk like a river too. Will be re-reading this for the rest of my life.

The metaphors for struggling with speech was absolutely beautiful and added a soft, lyrical quality to this gentle example of invisible disability for young readers.

The illustrations were beautiful and the art style felt so fluid and water colour in style, added more weight to the title (which was so clever).

A lovely book, showing the differences we as people have and learning to embrace them.

Foi o primeiro livro sobre gaguez que li e achei que o tema era tratado de uma forma simples e poética - bom para abordar a diferenca/norma com os alunos. As ilustracões são lindíssimas.

If you have 20 minutes, listen to this short book on Libby. Beautiful and inspiring.

Whoa. New favorite. Illustrations are stunning throughout. The story and perspective are rare and so important. Goosebumps at the end. I'll remember this book always.

A beautiful and compassionate way to think about stuttering, written by an author who also talks like a river.
