The pacing is difficult to stick with and though an exercise in absurdism, I lost track of what it was the author was critiquing. The main character is the product of nepotism and privilege? Society? Capitalism?

A terrible main character. Terrible person, terrible friend, terrible judge of character. How a white, affluent woman can live relatively safely at the absolute bottom of the barrel, with not many repercussions. The hatred for her was a bit comforting in that she also hated herself. Felt reflective of being depressed and hating my own self.
Was almost trauma porn in way, in that it satisfies the itch of wanting to kill yourself without actually doing it.

I started out really enjoying this book, I enjoyed the writing and the concept and the voice is humorous. I did grow tired of the consistency of the main character's head space. As she observes a few new things and different people/places are introduced to the reader such as the therapist (one of my favorite parts), the depressing outlook dragged. Which honestly might be the point, but it does become repetitive. Also there is something less interesting about someone who has family funding to do nothing for a whole year, I felt like that took a dimension out of it and made this extreme experience even less relatable. Still overall happy to have read it, just maybe the pace was a little slow for me.
