This graphic novel is beautiful. Overall it looks very simple, with scratchy pencil drawings, but there are so many details in the images. The story is about a girl who used to have friends, until they abruptly turn on her and she is the class loner. It’s a story that’s been told over and over again (and I feel like most of the books I’ve read recently deal with this issue), but it’s well-done, and worth a read since it’s quick.

Oh mon dieu, the art is so beautifully suited for this story of bullying, loneliness, and friendship--not to mention "Jane Eyre"--that it doesn't matter so much that the story did not always transition fluidly. But, to echo ma soeur's comment, it is ridiculous that the artist drew Helene as a skinny girl when a huge part of the story is that she is perceived as and ostracized for being fat!

The fox drew me in, tbh, but the story hit home for me. I love that the protagonist is reading Jane Eyre, it's one of my favorites.

this book was a lot rawer than i expected for a children's book. the illustrations are unique in the way they hop between drawing styles. i would definitely recommend this to people 10+ in age.

I feel like I need to yell at people, "Why did no one tell me about this book!?!?" I loved this book. It has Jane Eyre, a fave, and a little girl with no voice (*cough cough*). Maybe it was made just for me, but it's also a book that I will definitely be able to recommend to certain students and know it will be received well.

Wow. This is a beautiful book for ages 10-100. It's Judy Blume meets Jane Eyre in Montreal, but more compact and impressionistic. The hazy drawings make the book feel both more gentle and more sophisticated. The story is very brief, but anyone who has felt like an outsider, and any girl who has felt uncomfortable with her body, will be able to fill in the detail in each beat. Older kids should not skip this one just because it is shelved in the children's section.
