The art is both melancholy and sweet. I want to meet that fox!
The story is built around Jane Eyre & childhood isolation. I liked how the novel was intermixed with the current day setting. But I just don’t love Jane Eyre the way that other people do.

I loved this graphic novel. The illustrations are beautiful and simple. I thought going from her black and white illustrations during the girl's reminiscences to color while she is talking about Jane Eyre was wonderful-- shows how Helene feels about her life (dull, stressful, depressing) to the excitement of getting into another story. As Helene begins to realize so much of her feelings about herself are not true her life gets more colorful. Such a lovely way to express how depression feels, particularly how it feels to a child. We have this in our J Fiction section but I think it would definitely appeal to the adult crowd as well.

Novela gráfica juvenil preciosa. Las ilustraciones son maravillosas, y el texto consigue transmitirte la soledad y la angustia de la protagonista. Todo el que haya pasado por algún problema en la adolescencia, sin llegar a ser acoso, puede sentirse identificado con Helene. Triste, bonita y esperanzadora.

здебільшого сіра й дуже гарна графіка.
історія з потенціалом: головну героїню травлять у школі, вона шукає порятунку в літературі, потім знайомиться з новими твариною і людиною й виходить із цього всього сильнішою й загалом кращою. воно було би круте, якби не таке умовне. ми ніколи не дізнаємося, чому колишні подружки головної героїні раптом на неї насілися ("просто так" – непогана відповідь, але нащо воно тоді текстові?); лисиця з'являється на три сторінки й відіграє роль таку незначну, що дивно, як вона пробилася в назву; плаття з криноліном, яке отримує значно більше ефірного часу, ніж лисиця, для сюжету приблизно таке саме корисне; нова подружка виникає настільки нізвідки, що майже здається уявною... і так далі.
може, якби трошки менше красивих розворотів із сірою графікою і трошки більше розповіді.

Heart wrenching but with a positive ending. Things do work out. As a survivor of teenage bullying, it doesn't happen overnight, but it does get better and stories like this make it possible to believe you are not alone.

Helene' is tormented and ostracized by her former friends, but she finds solace in Jane Eyre and a special encounter with a fox. Published in Canada and translated from the original French, this story touches on universal needs like self-acceptance and belonging. On the NY Times' Best Illustrated Books list.

I have to admit that I didn't fully understand the part involving the fox, but otherwise this is a great story about bullying and how it affects those being bullied.
