Realm United by Katie Keridan
4.0
The first few chapters of Realm United recap the previous two installments, Reign Returned and Blood Divided. The repetition of story elements, like recapping the plot and world-building, is presented organically, allowing the plot to progress smoothly. This initial recap is essential for moving the story forward because Sebastian and Kyra must update their inner circles on current events to plan their next steps.
Because this is the epic conclusion to The Felserpent Chronicles, there are more recaps throughout the story, as Sebastian and Kyra attempt to unite nations.
Like the previous installments, Realm United is more character driven and there is character development. The pacing of the story was steady. I enjoyed the reveals. The intimacy scene was more closed-door, conveying a clear sense of what was happening without delving into detail. All the plotlines came together seamlessly, and the ending was thorough and satisfying.
The Felserpent Chronicles is bingeable, and it can also be enjoyed with breaks between books. The Felserpent Chronicles is a YA fantasy series. Young adult novels often use repetition in world-building and characterization to help readers remember details, making the story more accessible compared to adult novels, which typically have less repetition.

Blood Divided by Katie Keridan
medium-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? Character
5.0
Navigating their relationships with themselves and society while searching for their reincarnated foe and a way to free captives undergoing experimentation, Blood Divided was a well-rounded sequel that held my attention throughout.
Blood Divided explores themes like navigating boundaries and mistrust between Sebastian and Kyra due to past traumas. Their differing levels of social intelligence create complexity in their relationship, adding depth to their interactions. Sebastian is observant and skilled at manipulating situations to his advantage, often coming across as abrasive. In contrast, Kyra has a warm and approachable demeanor, which allows her to easily forge connections with those around her.
Blood Divided has a steady pace that leans toward character-driven development, much like the inaugural installment, Reign Returned. Blood Divided not only delves into character growth but also reveals insights about their past lives and future plans. I particularly enjoyed that Batty plays just as impactful a role in this installment. The ending wrapped up this installment nicely while leaving it open for the next one, Realm United.

5.0
Reign Returned is a delightful comfort read that skillfully blends traditional fantasy with subtle modern sci-fi elements. The use of multiple perspectives from well-rounded characters and a non-linear timeline enriches the narrative, creating an engaging experience. Reign Returned is character-driven, featuring a steadily rising plot.
The author uncovers secrets about the two main characters, Kyra and Sebastian, that they themselves are unaware of, leaving them purposefully oblivious to their own hidden truths for much of the narrative. Meanwhile, the readers and a few of the other characters are already aware, creating a sense of drama and intrigue.
The world-building is impressively detailed, with some sections feeling captivatingly dense with information that is woven organically into the narrative. There were repetitions in the world-building details, but they effectively revealed more about different situations or added depth to character dialogue, reinforcing the richness of the fantasy lore and aiding information retention.
I would recommend Reign Returned to fantasy readers who enjoy stories featuring deities, fantastical creatures, a softer magic system ( where the consequences of using magic are not always clear ), and a love that transcends corporeal existence. It’s perfect for those who appreciate rich world-building and layered narratives.
I could see myself rereading Reign Returned.

I was completely captivated by Hooked. The modern twist on J.M. Barrie's beloved characters from Peter Pan drew me in, and McIntire's writing made it impossible to put the book down. I found myself eager to unravel the tangled emotions of the complex characters and gripping plot until the very end. The narrative was engaging from the start, with a steady pace that kept me 'Hooked'. There were compelling and impactful twists. This is a dark romance, and I recommend checking the content guide before diving in.

Blending the whimsical vibes of Studio Ghibli with sapphic fantasy, Where Shadows Bloom is a captivating tale with pining romance and intrigue.
The main setting is a mysterious chateau, home to courtiers who live superficially and lavishly, including the immortal king. The story showcases a vibrant culture with an easy-going narrative that balances sweetness with a hint of darkness. The pacing is quick, and the transitions between the scenes are smooth.
The characters and their relationships are well-developed, and their struggle to communicate their true feelings adds an authentic layer of tension to the story.
The conclusion is satisfying, tying up all the plotlines with a neat bow.
This delightful YA fantasy is perfect for anyone who cherishes a blend of dark whimsy and sweet romance.
