A Gentleman Never Keeps Score by Cat Sebastian
4.5
i really love this.
obviously there’s a theme with these types of books, especially by the same author but even with that each one is different in its own way and each character is full developed and distinguished.
hartley is lovely and i adore him. i love the “mystery” of finding the paintings and the fact that they’re IN THE HOUSE is just… wow. hartley’s portrait being the only one left in a frame is horrifying, someone really did go to the trouble to put them in the walls after lord humphrey died and i think it has to be the lawyer but what else would be in the cabinet then? the letters telling him to do so?
i think sam is a beautiful human and his patience with hartley is phenomenal, hartley’s trauma is respected and discussed by the characters without being triggering for the reader. i love slow burns and ones written like this where the characters are learning and understanding and not pushing sex with “just trust me it’s fine” but truly waiting for the other to be ready and feel safe is just perfect.
i just wanted a bit more, more of the mystery that was thrown in at the end would’ve been nice if it was at the beginning and developed thought. genuinely, what was in the cabinets??

4.5/5 • okay three down two to go, loved this one! really thought the wit and humor was better in this one, probably because feyre is more comfortable with the family and herself but even cassian and az, love my bat boys.
love lucien coming to the night court! i hope he is around more in book four because i really do love him and want him around more. i hope he and elain can figure out their mating or he can at least find some kind of peace if she rejects him.
i adore cassian so much it’s starting to hurt, al i could think in battle was ‘not his wings, not his wings, not his wings’ and oh wow what a ride for him and nesta. it’s clear they’re mates or at least going to end up together (i seriously hope) because he’s so in love with her it’s obvious to everyone but nesta even tho i think she’s catching on to her own feelings about him.
clearly the battle and war is the like point of the book but it took so long it because uninteresting, knowing there’s more in the series kind of spoils the ending because you know they’re more than likely going to win, and same for rhys dying. he can’t die because the bone carver told her she would have a son and yes that’s all a big maybe but we know as the reader it’s a sure thing given the length of the next books, this is a non issue if you read them while being published because there was no guarantee but alas.
i hope alis is okay, i loved that she knew feyre was lying, great touch with SOMEONE seeing it. i thought lucien would say something but he was torn between tamlin and feyre so it’s reasoned why he didn’t.
ianthe is horrible, absolutely got what she deserved. feyre killing the twins WOW that was good. elain killing the king??? with truth teller??? that was crazy. i worry that this is going to be an in for a love triangle with az, lucien and elain because why not be dramatic you know but we shall see. the suriel dying actually made me cry haha the only time i’ve actually cried in this series.
HELION. BEING. LUCIEN’S. FATHER. my god do i need an update on that right away, oh my god.

4/5 • wow oh wow.
definitely better than the first one, worth getting through it to get this one. ready for more, we love a cliffhanger especially when you already have the next book.
while this one is much better than book one, it still was very dragged on and “like okay get to the point already” i feel like i don’t remember a good chunk of the book because of that, i didn’t understand the need to get the orb from mod’s dad and i can’t remember why they needed to get the book. like the importance of it and in the end it was useless anyway.
i knew that showing the queen’s velaris was a bad a idea, an absolutely terrible idea. there being so many queens and priestess is confusing because they’re nameless, just have one or keep them a group that acts as one because it’s just too many “no ones” to keep track of.
rhys is amazing. i love him. cassian is wonderful. i love him. azriel is perfect. i love him. i’m so excited for more bat boys in these next books.
the infamous chapter 55 was worth it, started thinking someone was going to die or tamlin was going to show up and just snatch feyre.
really surprised at the last minute addition of lucian being elain’s mate???? wow
