wow i am genuinely in awe of this book. there’s a review on the cover saying ‘wolfsong is so well written i am in awe of tj klune’s talent’ and i seriously couldn’t agree more.
these characters are so amazing in their own way, no one is so similar that they get lost, you care about everyone immediately. the journey that we go through with ox’s life is so raw and real, the book spanning i think fourteen years is remarkable. nothing felt rushed or over done or like it was there to fill time. i love how you see the development of ox finding a family in the bennetts, he has found a father in thomas, a mother in elizabeth, brothers with carter and kelly.
joe leaving with his brothers and gordo is so heartbreaking. three years, one month and twenty-six days may haunt me for the rest of my life. right as he’s seen who thomas is to him and who joe could be they’re ripped away from him and it takes. so. long. for them to come back safely, just wow.
i loved as well, team human coming to join the pack and the somehow magic of green creek to bestow this title of alpha to ox, thomas knew something before anyone could’ve even guessed it and ox coming into his own with this power was great to see.
start to finish, candy canes and pine ones. epic and awesome.

wow i don’t even have words for how amazing that was, i just love these characters, this family, this series is phenomenal. AND IT IS ONLY BOOK TWO??
gordo and mark are everything you’d want and need in the second chance romance, enemies to lovers, fated mates, angst and whatever else you could think of. these men right here love each other so much it is PAINFUL.
THE ENDING HOLY SHIT. the way i want throw this book across the room just to run and go pick it up to continue reading.

WOW. heartsong was stunning. kelly may be my favorite character now. as a middle child, i feel we’re connected somehow.
after reading the first two books as well as the short story i thought i knew the format, based on how the other two books start - in the beginning, when they are young and with a flashback - so considering we started with robbie in maine with michelle and a witch we never met i guessed this was before he went to green creek.
LITTLE DID I KNOW
honestly any hint of robbie’s shoulder hurting or itching, the times slips, brodie being an omega, ANYTHING, i genuinely missed. it wasn’t until the little boy, tony said, ‘when you came back’ i even considered that maybe it was a situation of him bouncing around as a kid but still not that he’d left (been taken from) green creek. when he calls shannon and she’s confused on why he’s calling her and he doesn’t know who she is, i had to go back a chapter or two and reread because i was right there with robbie like “what is happening?!” i assumed robbie was psychic seeing visions of ox and joe before he was sent to spy on them and that ezra was the witch before dale and the prisoner was livingstone or richard collins.
and honestly when the pack shows up i was counting for “okay that’s you and that’s you” but two unrecognized wolves i was like … and then it’s tanner and chris and even more confusion as kelly is yelling to not hurt him and so much in that moment of genuine what. is. going. on. that it only clicked we weren’t in a flashback was when kelly said he and robbie were mates. ASTONISHING. i was SHOCKED OH i couldn’t believe it. when kelly’s wolf was taken and carter was screaming he didn’t smell like a wolf the tears would not stop.
my darling boys relearning how to love each other was heart wrenching and funny and so perfect and hopeful. i loved how there was robbie deep down inside him even though the memories and years were taken from him, he couldn’t get all of it. rico struggling to trust robbie again was so hard to watch because everyone was in so much pain and relief, understandable that he couldn’t just let it go even if he wanted to.
when mark and robbie were in his room talking about the stone wolf i had to put the book down for a minutes because i wasn’t ready to know it was kelly’s, i could tell it was going that way but i still wasn’t ready and getting carter and mark back to betas just overwhelmed me, especially gordo begging him to show him his eyes over and over UGH.
i don’t know what else to say really, i could go on and on about this series.

and that’s all there is… wow.
feels weird that it’s over, wouldn’t have guessed that ending a mile away. never, ever guessed. i feel like there’s nothing more to say about these characters, this pack, this family. wow. i loved seeing carter’s love for his brothers from his perspective because until now we’ve only known it through someone else; hearing it from ox, gordo and robbie was very different than hearing it from carter.
the sections with kelly and carter, joe and carter or all three of them were my favorites. i’m the middle of three and it was heartbreaking and also lovely to see the three of them heal together.
fair warning, under this may sound negative but it’s written in hindsight of the series as a whole.
i feel just slightly disconnected from this story in the way that carter feels different in this book than in the other ones and i don’t know quite what it is. maybe it’s that gavin is a person now and we’re hearing from him instead of just whatever carter understands from him as the timber wolf. with the other three books you get the couples in some capacity, whether background or on their own so you’re wanting for their story but for some reason gavin and carter don’t feel… right?
in wolfsong, you see history with mark and gordo which leads into ravensong then you see kelly and robbie through both which gives to heartsong but gavin is a wolf the whole time until the last second and carter gets a rush of ‘oh shit wait a minute’ and we see he realizes what’s been around him the whole time but up until now we’ve not really gotten their dynamic and i feel like i wanted to read on mostly because i wanted to know if livingstone dies and what happens to everyone else. i found myself not really believing carter was in love with gavin, the carter we’re given doesn’t feel like the carter we know in the other books.
really carter going off after haven FOR A YEAR is ridiculous, kelly just got his wolf back right after robbie was taken and it is genuinely horrible he cuts the ties with the pack and risks being an omega again to get someone back that for all we’ve know him, carter doesn’t want him around.
i wish wish wish there was more of a struggle or questioning or something with carter and gavin being a man because as long as we’ve known him he’s seemed to been only interested in women and it seems like that all just cancels out at the last second. i know he kisses ox and jokes about being bi but i think that’s it. i almost wanted/prefered only the bennett brothers aspect and none of the romance because those parts of carter being the oldest, protecting kelly and joe, being kelly’s tether and blaming himself for richard collins kidnapping joe felt way more genuine than his love for gavin, even chris and tanner being platonic best mates made more sense than gavin and carter being in love.
