I will be thinking about this book for quite some time. Now THAT’s how you do a dark academia thriller, cause wtf?? These boys had one hell of a toxic obsession with each other and it was a horrifyingly electric experience.

Hmmmm…I’m going to sit with this experience a bit longer. Some of the main points of this book were delivered quite heavy handed, especially towards the end.
Yifei’s monologue before the car crash comes to mind as well as Cora’s suddenly, well-versed thoughts when for most of the book she was quite disconnected and numb?

However I do think Baker took this subject matter and crafted a fairly compelling horror novel. And her author’s note at the end really tied it together well for me.

Whoo, the perfect book to kick February off with! I love this series and this addition is no exception.

Me, reaching the end of this book:
“Oh it’s got some kick to it 🥲”

I went in with no expectations as I haven’t seen many reviews for it, but this was a lovely bit of magical realism about a pair of snakes who become humans, who become a toxic pair of sisters, and the seemingly insurmountable divide that comes between them through the centuries. I really loved Su’s development towards the end and Emerald was a constant favorite throughout. Definitely a book I’d recommend on audio as well!

This started off a bit slow, but once I got into it…WOW. Felt like a good scratch to my brain. The City in Glass is a strange little novel and has original, playful storytelling I can’t help but wish there was a Studio Ghibli adaptation for this??? Idk, it makes sense to me!

I'm not usually a huge Greek Mythology type of gal, but I did enjoy this! The narrator especially made it an immersive experience, she did an amazing job with the large cast and creating unique voices for each of them.

This takes familiar myths and turns them upside down in quite a few ways. However, I found the theme of deconstruction a strong one in this and I really like where it's going with it. I did not know it was a series when I started this, and I wish I'd found out sooner! The ending felt a bit abrupt and I'm anxious to read the next one now.

Definitely a more academically rigorous text than I’m used to, but wow, a necessary read! I probably could’ve gotten more out of it if I’d read more of the stories referenced by Morrison, but she described characters and scenes pretty succinctly. It’s a short book but I’m glad I took my time reading this one.
