I just don't have the attention span for it, even with Andy Serkis's fantastic narration.

This book is essentially the same short story told six times. Each chapter plays out the same way, all the events taking place in the same order, with and comments on everything in the same fashion. It got to the point where by the end I was skipping over large chunks of text because it was either descriptions of food or else something I'd already read 5 times.

The worst bit was it skips straight over the actual detective stuff. Each chapter is broken in two, with the first half being the client hiring the detectives, then the second half being the detectives delivering the goods. They briefly explain how they discovered the dish the client was after, but you don't actually see any of it.

Each chapter would have made a great book by itself, but this just felt like a bad first draft of those greater books. It's a shame too because the character work was very enjoyable.

The main character has no likeable qualities whatsoever, to the point that I actively don't want to see him get a happy ending.
