A Perilous Undertaking by Deanna Raybourn

Man, Mrs. Ramsforth should’ve been able to get away with the murder and move away to Greece and live her best life. Not her husband or any of her friends respected her marriage!

Anyways, this series really shines with Veronica and Stoker are bantering and nerding out together. The murder mystery investigation plot was okay (as someone who doesn’t read much of that genre), but quite predictable to me. I was hoping Raybourn would surprise us as she seems to be taking a feminist angle with Veronica and her general storyline. Only cool, strong women get the feminism lens. If you’re a weak, emotional woman just trying to survive in these wretched times… shame on you, honestly!

This book is definitely a guilt pleasure. The end irritated me, and I'll probably continue in the trilogy.

I will never be emotionally okay ever again. 10/10, would recommend.

SpoilerWished the Komizar stayed strict, but still had much compassion and wasn't so power hungry. It would've been very interesting if Venda wasn't so evil, and if Morrighan and Venda were on the same grounds of being amoral. I would've liked that a lot more!! (Mainly because I just love the Komizar so much... and I wish he didn't kill Aster. My heart is so broken.)
