Well I absolutely loved this first book in the Charlie Parker series, Connolly is such a great author, especially writing dark and mysterious material - can't believe this was my first ever read of his - I guess you've got to start somewhere though.
This book was so brutal so I'd recommend to mature readers only because it contains a lot of torture, killing and worse.
I kept forgetting who was who though, because there's so many characters; the main character though is very likeable.
If you're into psychological crime thrillers that are full of suspense, gore and keep you guessing what's going to happen next and Whodunnit...then this is for you! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
There's some things that are said and done though that got me thinking, Sam would never do that or Dean would never say that; but at the end of the day - the series is over so you've got to take what you can get!
If you're a fan of the television series, I'd recommend giving this first book a try and see if you like it.
Me, I like it enough to read the next one in the series.
I'd been wanting to read this book for quite some time, due to the overall positive feedback and reviews on it; so here we have it - and after finishing this 1152 page lump of a book...I am exhausted. 😂
It's an epic read don't get me wrong, the writing is admirable but it is hard work as the plot is very complex and over-long.
The story contains ruthless samurai, scheming priests, impenetrable fortresses, dishonourable ninja and everything else about feudal Japan which captures the imagination.
If you like large books that you can get lost in, give this one a try.
Although not for the faint-hearted as there's so many decapitations, a diabolical execution and overall violence within these pages.

The first book of the Mercy Thompson series! 🐺
Okay this just made it into the 'Pick' category because the storyline was weak but the characters were terrific and I'm thinking..maybe it's a character building novel to start off the series?
Anyway, I'm definitely interested to see where this goes and I'll continue with it. 👍

This debut novel is based around the historical concept of sin eating - the idea that a person close to death could call on a ‘Sin Eater’ to spiritually take on their sins.
The dying person would do this by confessing to the Sin Eater, who would then consume a ritual meal consisting of a different type of food to represent each transgression.
This is a story about a young girl sentenced to live as a Sin Eater for the rest of her life.
This one was very dark, written well and had a very clever plot but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

Horror novel set in the 90s about a women's book club that must do battle with a very mysterious newcomer to their small Southern town.
I thought there would be a twist at the end but there wasn't, it was still a brilliant read; it's very fast-paced and enjoyable with a diverse range of lovable characters.
It's brutal, gory, disturbing and the comeuppance of a certain character was delightful.
Really like the writing of Grady Hendrix, I recommend this one to fans of Stephen King.
Short but thought-provoking book, which is split into three parts; at the start there's a death, then there's a murder and the rest of the novel is the implications of said murder.
The writing is great, it's a short book but the emotions are strong.
A group of University scholars go on a expedition to the Antarctica where they discover ancient ruins and signs of prehistoric lifeforms that are unidentifiable to them, afterwards things go downhill rapidly and the team end up losing each other - there's men and dogs being slaughtered but who is it?
This one was very good, I liked it a lot and this is another 4/5 rating; I took a star off because there's way too much descriptions of architecture and symbols.
Reminded me of 'The Thing' movie, still need to read that one!!
