Neon Roses follows Eluned over three transformational years in the 1980s from the pickets of the Welsh miners strike to the lesbian nightclubs of London. Against a bleak backdrop of rising Thatcherism and unrest, Dawson shares a story brimming with life, love, hope, and curiosity.

A lighthearted romance centered around food and Armenian culture. I struggled with insta-love and not feeling connected to the mcs relationship, but the story was enjoyable.

Finally, historical representation for really horny queer people.

An exceptionally well researched historical romance between a trans man painter and a cis female botanist on a bicycle race through victorian england. Transness and sexuality in the time period is beautifully explored alongside a sweeping romance.

Grab a pumpkin spice treat and cuddle up for this sapphic cozy autumn hallmark movie of a book. Seasonal, cute and, doesn’t have the third act miscommunication breakup.

Reading Perfume & Pain felt like watching the L word for the first time. Fun, gossipy, pulpy novel about a problematic lesbian author struggling through her 30s.

Both of Dorn’s novels have narrators that hold hatred for butch/masculine lesbians, which makes me cringe when reading, but this is a book meant to make the reader cringe, and it does serve the greater narrative of an unwell, self-centered but also self-loathing lesbian.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
I really wanted to like this book. On paper, it looks like everything I love to read: witches, sapphic love story, familial love, cozy plot… Unfortunately, this one did not live up to my expectations. I gave reading it a few different tries, but the writing is so heavy with juvenile purple prose that it kept me from connecting with the characters or plot. The plot moves very slowly, and I DNF’d around the 50% mark because I was too underwhelmed to make myself continue.

I really enjoyed the concept of this book, I just wish it was structured differently. I would be interested in trying another book by this author as their style matures.

Thank you to NetGalley and Redhook Books for this ARC.
