A Harvest of Hearts by Andrea Eames

Thank you to Andrea Eames, Erewhon Books, and NetGalley for the free book!

If you’re a fan of Howl’s Moving Castle, this book is going to steal your heart (pun intended). A Harvest of Hearts is a whimsical yet slightly darker take on the fantasy romance genre, with an unforgettable cast of characters and a world that feels both magical and deeply unsettling.

Foss Butcher is such a relatable and endearing protagonist. Her clumsiness, practicality, and self-doubt made her feel incredibly real. Her relationship with her father was one of the most touching aspects of the story—it was so sweet and heartfelt that it had me tearing up multiple times.

The story has a darker edge with its concept of heart-harvesting magic, but Andrea Eames balances that with humor and warmth. The enchanted House (complete with a talking cat!) was an absolute highlight, as were Foss's struggles to navigate her curse and her growing connection with Sylvester. The truth about Sylvester and the sorceresses was so unique and intriguing—I couldn’t put the book down as the mystery unfolded.

The world-building was fascinating, with layers of magic and societal tension that gave the story incredible depth. It’s a book about love, self-worth, and courage, and it delivers on every level. Highly recommend for fans of Howl’s Moving Castle and anyone who loves a story with humor, heart, and a touch of darkness.

Thank you to Susanna Kearsley, Sourcebooks Landmark, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book!

The writing masterfully evokes the atmosphere of the 17th century while remaining accessible to modern readers. The story is a captivating blend of historical fiction and magical realism, and I was completely drawn into the mystery surrounding Prince Henry’s death and the gripping court intrigue that followed.

Andrew Logan’s character was fascinating, especially with the added layer of his Sight. This subtle fantasy element complemented the historical setting beautifully, enhancing the tension and stakes. The slow-budding romance between Andrew and Phoebe was tender and well-paced, adding just the right touch of emotional depth to the story.

What truly stood out to me were the many layers of love explored throughout the book—romantic, platonic, and familial. They added a richness to the narrative that was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Overall, The King’s Messenger is a beautifully written tale of treachery, betrayal, and love. If you enjoy historical fiction with a dash of magical realism, this one is not to be missed! Highly recommend.

Thank you so much to Charlie N. Holmberg for the free copy of this book!

Wow. That ending left me bawling. I’d forgotten just how much I love these characters and this incredible found family. Whimbrel House solidified itself as my favorite found family story ever, and this installment only deepened that love.

Merritt and Owein’s relationship continues to be the sweetest, most heartwarming bond—purely lovely. And speaking of ships, Owein and Fallon stole my heart! The peace and comfort they find in each other is everything you could hope for in a relationship. I absolutely adored their dynamic.

As for Silas Hogwood? He remains as terrifying as ever. Every encounter with him had me gripping the edge of my seat, utterly dreading what might happen next. Holmberg knows how to craft a truly bone-chilling villain, and Silas is no exception.

This book reinforced why Charlie N. Holmberg is one of my favorite authors. It perfectly balances heart, humor, and high stakes while building on the relationships I’ve come to adore. I can’t wait for the next—and final—book in the series!

Highly recommend this to anyone who loves magical adventures, terrifying villains, and heartwarming found family vibes.

I don’t think the narration was working for me. I just could not get into the story by listening to it. I fully intend on revisiting this story in print in the future.

Thank you to Paige Crutcher, St. Martin's Griffin, SMP Early Readers, and NetGalley for the free book!

This book was an absolute delight! The generational curse and family histories felt intricate and clever, creating a rich backdrop for the story. Although it’s set in modern times, the focus wasn’t on technology, which gave it a timeless, magical vibe that I adored.

The twists and revelations were perfectly paced, and the motherworld—a dark and chilling realm—added an eerie layer to the story. The vibes were impeccable: atmospheric, magical, and just the right amount of creepy.

Doreen and Margot’s friendship was a standout element for me. It was beautifully written and showcased the power of strong, supportive relationships. And let’s talk about Doreen and Ambrose—their dynamic was everything! The bickering, the reluctant partnership, and their eventual romantic connection were done so well. The tension between them kept me hooked, and their growth as characters felt organic and satisfying.

Overall, A Circle of Uncommon Witches is a captivating blend of adventure, romance, and destiny. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait to read more from Paige Crutcher. Highly recommend it to fans of magical tales with heart!

Thank you to Diana Fedorak and Hidden Hollow Book Tours for the free copy of this book!

I love a good sci-fi cautionary tale, and Children of Alpheios delivers an engaging exploration of humanity’s relationship with genetic engineering. The moral dilemma of losing what makes us human through DNA editing is both thought-provoking and chilling.

Alina’s fierce love for her son Mandin was beautifully written. Her strength, intelligence, and determination made her such a compelling protagonist, and her journey to protect her son kept me hooked. Kiean, with his gruff exterior and hidden soft side, was a delightful addition. Watching his character evolve was such a treat!

The world-building was another standout. Fedorak created an incredible sense of place on planet Eamine, from the harsh environment to the expeditionary life. The climax—storming Alpheios—was tense and thrilling, a definite highlight of the book.

While the pacing felt a bit slow at times, the story remained engaging, and I’m already excited to dive into the next installment, Origins Progeny. If you’re a fan of thoughtful science fiction with strong characters and emotional depth, this is definitely one to add to your TBR!

Thank you to Jacquelyn Benson, Vaughan Woods Publishing, and NetGalley for the free audiobook!

Alex Picard delivers an absolutely stellar performance in Tomb of the Sun King! Her narration brought this story to life in a way that felt like experiencing it for the first time. The tension, humor, and adventure were all perfectly conveyed, keeping me completely engrossed from start to finish.

One standout highlight was Neil’s internal exclamation of “danger gnome” every time he found himself thinking something positive about Constance. Every instance had me laughing out loud, and Picard’s portrayal of Neil’s growing distress was pitch-perfect. Her ability to switch between accents and characters was seamless, adding so much depth and charm to the audiobook.

Alex Picard is quickly becoming a favorite narrator of mine. Her talent for capturing the essence of every character and infusing the narration with energy and emotion is unmatched. If she’s narrating, I’m listening!

For audiobook lovers, Tomb of the Sun King is an absolute treat. Highly recommended for fans of historical fantasy, romance, and action-packed adventures!

A Whisper in the Woods by Elise Nelson

Did not finish book. Stopped at 29%.
While the premise was intriguing, the plot felt a little rushed, and Bratan and Leena’s instant attraction didn’t leave much room for tension to build. There were also a lot of conflicts introduced early on—multiple villains, missing people, dying crops, and a newly built village in resource-scarce woods—that made the story feel a bit crowded. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t quite work for me, but I can see how others might enjoy it.

What a stunning conclusion to the story that began in What the River Knows! Where the Library Hides was everything I hoped for and more. Returning to Egypt for this final chapter was an absolute treat, and I’m so glad Inez and Whit's journey didn’t disappoint.

Whitford Hayes continues to be the dashing, mysterious character we know and love, while Inez’s strength and kindness shine through even in the face of heartbreaking challenges. I loved seeing how she handled the loss of her cousin, the betrayal of her mother, and the complicated fate tied to her marriage to Whit. The rivals-to-lovers romance was executed perfectly, and their chemistry was undeniable.

The twists and surprises in this book kept me on the edge of my seat! Every page had me hooked, and it was impossible to put down. The lush setting of 1885 Egypt, the rich historical context, and the romance combined into an unforgettable read.

While I’m sad to see Inez and Whit’s story come to an end, the teaser at the end has me hopeful for more from this world and these characters. Please tell me there’s more to come!

Enemy of My Dreams by Jenny Williamson

Thank you Jenny Williamson, Canary Street Press, The Hive, and NetGalley for the free book!

I’m always drawn to historical romances set in ancient Rome, and Enemy of My Dreams did not disappoint! Julia, a headstrong Roman princess, and Alaric, the fierce Visigoth warrior, make for an unforgettable pairing. Julia’s refusal to bow to anyone’s demands made her such a compelling protagonist, and Alaric’s sharp wit and commanding presence were the perfect match for her fiery spirit.

The dynamic between Julia and Alaric was one of my favorite parts. Their early journey together was full of tension and hilarious pettiness—
Alaric making Julia wash his shirt, or Julia putting nettles in his bed?
Priceless moments that kept me hooked. The mix of humor and heat in their interactions made their relationship feel authentic and entertaining.

This book is epic in every sense—rich with drama, suspense, and an incredible cast of characters. There were moments
where I genuinely wasn’t sure if some of them would make it to the end,
which added to the stakes and kept me turning the pages.

Between the vivid writing, the perfect balance of spice and story, and the captivating setting, Enemy of My Dreams is a must-read for fans of historical romance. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more from Jenny Williamson!
