I felt so sorry for the main character. Exhausting just reading what she went through every day, but near the end of the book, things really got intense. I never trusted Ben either, but WOW! A different twist on a fatal attraction that had me thinking about it days after I finished the book. After a slow start, this was one book I could not put down once I got halfway through it.

Interesting book about the impact settlers had on the Plains Indians--especially those tribes that were "horse Indians." I found myself making mental notes throughout the book as to when my ancestors came to Texas and what area they lived in, because there were numerous Indian attacks throughout the area. I was also interested in the life of Quanah Parker, since I have read so much about his mother, Cynthia. I was a bit disappointed that the book didn't have more of a focus on Quanah and his life. One thing I liked, was the abundance of details about the differences in the tribes and their cultures.
The book is full of details about various skirmishes and battles with the Indians, so if you don't want to read about them, this book is not for you.

I loved the beautiful and descriptive writing in this book. I also was intriqued at the details of life in those days, especially as it pertained to women. This was another historical fiction book that prompted me to go to the internet and read more about some of the events that were taking place during that time. There were a few details that made me skeptical, but all in all, I really liked it and would recommend it to other readers.

This was an enjoyable read! I loved all the characters and I especially enjoyed reading about the relationship between Aunt Evy's husband and his horse. LOL I couldn't help but root for Francie and her family as the faced all their triumphs and hardships.
