I bought this book because I've liked the movie since I was a teen and didn't know it was a book. While very different from the movie, this book was fantastic. It's short and exciting: a chilling horror story as well as a domestic thriller. This is the second book by Matheson that I've read, the first being "I am Legend", and I can't wait to read more of his work.

Stephen King cites Richard Matheson as his greatest influence as an author, and, having read a lot of King's books, the influence is abundantly clear.

Minus a 1/2 star because of some off-putting misogyny at a couple points. Some misogyny isn't surprising considering the decade it was written in, and for the most part the women characters were quite strong, but the bits that were in here did irk me and produced eye-rolls and audible "ugh"s.

Still, 100% worth the read. Fans of Stephen King, domestic thrillers and paranormal horror will likely enjoy this.

Very informative book about trauma and very helpful for me personally. It can be difficult to get through at times and is a little "clinical" in its writing style but I can't fault it for that, based on the author, subject matter and intention. Would definitely recommend for people trying to understand trauma for themselves or someone they love.
