Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.
Way too dark for me. I did not realize how gruesomely thrillery this would be.

This was a very dark and gory story of a young girl coming of age being raised as a cannibal. For such an extreme plot, it was really well done. We could really see Margots struggle as she grappled with her hunger and growing remorse.

Written like a gothic fairytale, this was a beautiful story of horror, destruction, and despair. We are hearing the story told to "us", (us being the reader and also a child). We slowly learn throughout the telling who the narrator is and where the story is coming from. It was intriguing and well written.

For a novel about a stripper and a dominatrix, this was incredibly relatable. It covers love and loss, passion and rage, and everything in between. This was beautifully written, and I can't wait to read it again.

I am unsure of my thoughts on this book. In the first book, Marlowe didn't even believe Caliban was real for the first half of the book. Once she knows he's real, she has to go on this epic journey to save him, but she never gets a chance to actually be with/know him truly. Now in book two, she still is unable to be with him because he is still in the same unresolved problem from book one. It just seems like she is going through a lot of trouble for someone she didn't believe was real (I get that they are soul bound, or whatever, but it just feels kind of lazy and insta-lovey). This almost felt like an extremely extended epilogue since the entire novel was just waiting to resolve the conflict that the first book left on a cliff hanger. Even more, her relationship with both Caliban and Fauna felt so disingenuous because they were lying and keeping secrets from her constantly. I enjoy Pipers writing style and the world building, but I didn't love the plot or character development.

When I told my coworkers about this book, they said, "How do you always find the perfectly weird books?" And that was exactly what this was: perfectly weird! The premise was wacky and wild, but overwhelmingly enjoyable. Vi is a narrator who is dealing with the struggles of heartbreak, identity, and fulfillment. Comical, absurd and relatable.
