Somehow this one was far more engaging than the previous few despite the fact that very little actually happened.

This book was really compelling at the beginning, then the middle kind of lagged. I was really wondering what the point of all the flashbacks were, and not all of the flashbacks were really holding my attention. But, by the end, I almost felt silly for doubting the middle. This is a really interesting and unique look at how both individuals and groups/countries could respond to a growing climate crisis— but the individuals take center stage as their extreme circumstances push them into extreme choices.

I’m not sure how I feel about this ending. I can’t put my finger on any specific complaints, but it didn’t feel as satisfying as I hoped?

This had a really compelling beginning, but then the middle lagged a lot. Maybe it’s because I did the audiobook, but even at 1.25x speed the entire middle felt super slow. I think it took too long to make any progress into unraveling the mystery element. The ending was pretty good, though.

I was hook the entire time and couldn't put it down. After the bombshell ending of book 2, things are moving faster. I'm reading the 4th one right away.

I am thoroughly fascinated by this world-building! There is nothing else quite like these books to compare them to.
