I sincerely hope this is the worst book I read in 2024 because I can't imagine something worse than this

I was having so much fun and loving this book until the final 5%. I predicted all of the twists, which isn't something I necessarily hate in books (I found the Good Girls Guide To Murder books very predictable but I loved them anyway) but with this one, I found it so predictable that I was certain it was a fake-out and then it wasn't. Also, the way the final twist was revealed was a pure infodump at the end which I found so disappointing. Not to mention the stark change in formatting at the end of the book
(there's a transcript and a letter)
that felt super out of place. I love Holly Jackson's work and Ive read each of her books in one sitting because they're so addictive and this was no exception. But,while I loved almost all of the book, I was majorly disappointed in the ending.

Most of this book I liked a lot more than the others in this series because it was so serious and gritty and had Pip at the centre of a crime, instead of investigating it from the outside. I liked how dark it was. But it was also wayyyy more predictable and didn't feel as fleshed out as the others. I knew the killer was Jason Bell from the first mention that Billy was an employee at his company, possibly before that. I specificially remember knowing because Jason had been through hell with his daughters, one being killed and one being raped and going to prison, and the author still painted him as someone we shouldn't have sympathy for. I thought the serial killer business was really creepy and awesome, but Pips plan for covering up Jason's murder was stupid. She should've just called it in - she had more evidence to prove it was self defense than things to doubt her. And her dragging all her friends into the mess, dragging Ravi in, not to mention leaving gaping holes in their plans just felt unbelievable. I also like the sentiment of the ending that they eventually had peace once the trial was settled, but the case could be reopened at any time with further evidence and who's to say something doesn't eventually come forward? She told different stories to different people when she was first being stalked and it's very not in her favour. They also mention that Billy's case is reopened and Jason could be suspected as the DT killer, but if Billy is found innocent and released and Jason is found to be the DT killer, Pip showed Hawkins the evidence to prove that the DT killer was after her. That alone would probably reopen Jason's case and have pip as the prime suspect.
