The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall

This book was released in 2023, so tell me why the hell there's a HP mention? It could have easily been replaced with something else.

I picked this one up to see what the hype was about, and I definitely don't think it was worth it. At. All. It was all over the place. Not even bothering to give this a star rating.

I think this is the first time I'm rating an Ashley Poston book less than 5 stars. It was good, don't get me wrong. It just took me longer to get into this one than the others I think because of how meta it was. A woman finds herself in the fictional town of her favorite romance series, and it's a book about her in a book? It broke my brain a little. Though, I will say I absolutely LOVE Anders and Mr. Butterscotch (his cat).

This book is absolutely going to become my whole personality for a while and I'm okay with that.

Dungeons and Drama reminds me a lot of my own high school days and had me thinking a lot about friends I haven't talked to in years. I am absolutely smitten with Nathan and infinitely jealous of Riley's wardrobe. (Also Nathan's shirt collection. I am nothing if not multifaceted.) I swear I'd be secretly obsessed with Nathan if we went to high school together. A boy with floppy brown hair and glasses? *swoon* I'm pretty sure this book healed a part of my high school self I didn't know was broken. It's such a cute rom-com with my favorite tropes but also touches on very real issues of arts funding cuts, familial issues, blessings disguised as punishments, and so on. I'll definitely be thinking about this one for a while.

This book deserves all the stars! Even though I saw the end coming, there really wasn't any other way it could have ended. Definitely going to be thinking about this one for a while; much like its predecessor, The Whispering Dark.
