I liked the fighting scenes. The shonen/*One Piece* nerd in me really came out cuz WOW I really really really liked the long, messy fights. The last battle went so hard and is probably my favourite.
This book dragged a lot more than the other 2 -- I found that OS started quick, and ended quick, but things were SLOW around the mid-point. Looking back at all the events that happened, I could see which scenes built-up to the action at the end. I think the events and scenes were well-placed amongst the story, even if past-spicy couldn't see where things were heading.
I also appreciate that OS felt to be more battle, war, and problem oriented. So much bad shit was happening left n right lol. Those poor cadet mfs could barely have 1 (one) restful night of sleep.
Predicted, but I also liked seeing Violet and Xaden's relationship progress and evolve throughout the book. I love that they are both determined to fight for eachother no matter what. I love a strong relationship bond. Also they're reaching the "fighting like a married couple" cliche in my head, which is so cute
On the actual big events:
Andarna leaving
BRUHHHHHHH WHAT THE HELL I knew she would leave, the moment the offer was on the table. I knew that she would want to go, and that Violet wouldn't want to hold her back from making any decisions. Still cried though 😭 I'm not sure exactly how Violet's signet works though, is it from Andarna? Why did it work when Andarna was away? Did Andarna actually come back and was powering her dreams? Or is it actually from Tairn somehow? Idk man
Mira almost dying
I lowkey knew she'd be saved by Brennan HAHA but I was SHOCKED that Mira, strong, stubborn Mira of all people was captured. Ain't no way this was possible
Quinn's death
I didn't feel attached to Quinn much, but Imogen? Yes. Seeing Quinn die from Imogen's POV? I cried HARD Quinn dancing in one moment, and then the next moment she's in Imogen's arms taking her last breath. I liked seeing this short snippet of their friendship, and them talking about Quinn's future wedding plans. It's so sad
VIOLET AND THE WEDDING RING
OH MY GOD???????? Okay theory: Violet found Xaden after killing Theophanie, Xaden was too far gone as venin. Something like, they had to elope so Violet would take over Riorson House, Tyyrendor, and act in his shoes?
I'm pretty sure it'll be something like that, but I'm not ignoring the idea that maybe they just leave eachother so much and wanted to have this legal bind together.
THE CLIFFHANGER ENDING
UGGGHHHHH YARROS WHYYYYYY I didn't mind that most chapters ended on a cliffhanger, but I HATE that the book ended like this :devastated: and I'll have to wait ages for Book 4 omg pls why
Through reading *The Coin*, I felt the same feelings as when I watched *Borat* (2006). I liked the writing. I think it was artistic, offered a deeper meaning. But oh my god, I just don't like it. I'm scared. I'm disgusted.
So much of the story was taboo, scary, weird, absurd, and freaky, and it was all written with so much ease. I enjoyed how the book touched on taboo topics as if it was normal. I could feel that the MC had no shame in what she did. I thought this added a lot to the overall meaning behind the story. When I write academic papers, this is how I've always wanted to write them; in easy language, and with confidence about controversial topics.
On the actual events in the story... erm..... what the sigma? There were so many parallels to *My Year of Rest and Relaxation*, as if *The Coin* was the younger, less liked, trashy cousin. Ugh. The MC was unlikeable. All her lovers were unlikeable. I'm not one to judge what a teacher is like outside of school, but holy shit, I wouldn't want her to be teaching. Her teaching methods were unconventional as fuck, and I feared for her students. However, I'm not shocked that some of her students responded well to what she did with them -- I just don't think that's the way to go as a teacher. She really pissed me off. But it's so obvious that something is *wrong* with her. I don't know if it was ever intended for the reader to diagnose her, but her flaws were so fucking prominent, I feel like we ***needed*** to write her off with some kind of mental illness to truly take in the story.
I *will* say though, that I do appreciate the representation that teachers are people and we *can* do wild, crazy things in our personal time. She did some weird shit on her own, but she still showed up to class each day. She still took (enough) care of herself to show up sober, neutral, and with love for her students.

This was very cute <3 I love the penguins 🐧 Roy, Silo, and baby Tango. After looking at Google, I learned that this was a (kinda) true story. I wish I could meet the three penguins.
I was shedding TEARS in the final half of the last chapter like, omggggggggg
It took me to around chapter 2 or 3 to click that MAYBE The doctor and nurse/secretary were cats. The catnip tea? Gave it away
BUT BACK TO THE LAST CHAPTER omggg I'm so glad everything was revealed! I got my closure with all my theories 😌 it's nice that we were able to see first hand how the "heard it through the grapevine" worked. It's so cute that Chitose and Nikké were waiting for their owners.
AND ALSO okay so like The way that Chitose took on a human form identical to her owner, and Nikké did the same!! Omg!!! That's so adorable 😭 I totally see the vision. Cats think they look like their owners ❤️❤️❤️
This makes me miss my dog LOL this book was so sweet
Not really the kind of book I'd like to read directly after finishing Iron Flame. I'll come back to this another time.
Also for context: I picked this book up because my boyfriend wanted to have an impulsive/unplanned book date. I didn't have a book with me so I browsed a (very small) local library which had like, NO books. Nothing on my TBR was available, so I just had to browse the shelves to look for something that I might want to read. And my phone was dying too so I couldn't read any books online LOL
