A Drop of Fortune by Danielle Garrett

This was such a cozy & cute magical book. It’s perfect for a sweet fall/halloween vibe. It’s full of different characters like witches, fairies, elves, & tons more. There’s some romance, but it’s not what the whole story is about. There’s lots of fun side characters and subplots happening. I really loved this book & I’m nostalgic for this fictional seaside town. The narrator did a fantastic job. I enjoyed the lilt in her voice when speaking as the character Archie. He’s a fun & sassy character you can’t help but love.

Another cute story in the Ghosted series by Sarah Ready. This one focuses on Max, Fiona’s best friend, who we meet in the third book in the series. These can be read as stand alones, but it’s more fun to read them all. My first feelings towards Max at the beginning were pretty negative. He seemed unlikeable, but I came around. As the story progresses he opens up more and his first impression becomes more forgivable. Anna and her family are both sweet and funny. I’ll be honest though the character that stole my heart was Doreen. She’s hilarious and steals the show even though she’s a minor character. The narrators did a wonderful job. I recommend this whole series.

This book had its great moments, but it also had not so great moments. I absolutely love the representation this book brings. The main character has cerebral palsy & was also a foster child. The downfall for me was that the MMC kind of sucked. He started out promising, but after the big conflict I couldn’t find him redeemable. I could rant about that whole scene, but I won’t because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. It also felt a bit odd how often the characters would talk about their distrust but then escalate the relationship so quickly especially when the FMC has a child who is also involved within the relationship from the very beginning.
As for the narration, I didn’t love it. The inflections felt off a lot of the time. At times her voice would come across in a tone that seemed more fitting for older characters as opposed to characters in their late twenties. It was kind of distracting & would pull me out of the scene when what was happening didn’t really match with the pace and tone being used.
All in all I do look forward to the next book in the series because my main complaints are with the MMC & he wouldn’t be a main character in the next one.

The Cinnamon Bun Book Store by Laurie Gilmore

Another perfect story in Dream Harbor. I think I liked this one more than the first because there’s a lot of similarities between me & Hazel. I’m a homebody. An indoor cat. Like Hazel, as I approach my thirties I worry I’ll regret how I’ve spent my time. But unlike me Hazel decides to do something about it. Hazel & Noah decide to have a summer of fun before her 30th birthday. Noah is a total cinnamon roll book boyfriend which couldn’t be more fitting given the title of the book. This was seriously just a fun & cute read. And yes there’s spice too. I’m excited for the 3rd in the series, The Christmas Tree Farm, which comes out next month.

Fall Into You by Caroline Frank

This is a perfect cozy read/listen for the fall season which I’m all about. The story follows Liza who falls for her brother’s best friend Matt. Her brother Vinny has forbidden Matt from pursuing Liza so they decide to keep things secret until they know if it’s serious between them. Overall I liked the story & the fall vibes. I really only disliked one thing & that was Vinny’s character. The overprotective brother trope was to the extreme with him & he made me roll my eyes most of the time. Liza & Matt’s story is cute though & most of the other characters are funny & enjoyable. I liked the narrators & the inflections they added to certain scenes. It really brought the characters to life & set the tone for whatever was going on.

Wow. The ending was the perfect lead into the next book in the series. It left me with the feeling of a rubber band about to snap. Right on the brink of chaos. I really enjoyed the story. Even though it’s a work of fiction there’s plenty of material that isn’t fictional. When I was in school we were taught about the holocaust, but we weren’t really told much about Hitler before then. The Beer Hall Putsch was new information to me & I really loved that I learned something new while reading this.

Oh my gosh I need more! Not only was this cute & witchy, but it was so funny! The narrators really brought these characters to life & I absolutely loved the voices Laura used for the Merriweather women. I was in tears from laughing at times. I really think the audio adds to how amazing the story was. The plot was great. I didn’t feel like the story ever dragged. I loved every second of it.

What a beautiful and sad story. This was paced perfectly & the alternating story that takes place in present day with Alex vs Josey’s story back during the war made me want to throw all responsibilities to the side & keep reading to see what happens next. The holocaust was and is such an important part of history. Even though Josey is a fictional character, millions of people experienced what he did in real life. The author explains at the end where she got her inspiration for Josey & those people are indeed very real. Alex’s story is also a heartbreaking one. The heart of the book is about forgiveness, acceptance, & change. The message about judging a person for the worst thing they’ve done vs the good things they’ve done is so important for young readers to understand. Change is possible. It’s possible to be a good person and to have done something bad. Getting to know the character of Alex before discovering what exactly he’s done really helps readers see how good and bad isn’t so black and white. I give this book all of the stars.

An Irish Bookshop Murder by Lucy Connelly

This is going to be a great series. The characters are all very unique & entertaining in their own ways. The small town of Shamrock Cove sounds like a dreamland. For a cozy mystery I was surprised at how tragic the backstory was for one of the main characters. Other than that it checks all the boxes for a fun cozy mystery. It did keep me guessing who the murderer was & I wasn’t able to figure it out before it was finally revealed. The narrator was enjoyable to listen to & her voices for the characters were fun. I’m excited for this series to continue & to get to know these characters more.
