A tad overhyped IMO. Lot’s going on, sometimes didn’t care for the history chapters, but they were important to the story. I dunno, it worked for a lot of ppl.

Classic Backman tale. I do feel like you either need to enjoy his writing or not. This one did feel a tad long but I do like the style.

So good. You’ll just get into the story and forget about life here in 2024. Love when you can trust the author does their research on the time period. So interesting! This’ll be hard to beat for his fic of the year.

I dunno, I think it was the writing style that didn’t allow me to really get into it, even tho the story was intense.

Hmmm, talented writing but I didn’t want to be riding along with them on the journey. They didn’t paint their landscapes in a bright light. I wanted to learn more about this area in the world but they didn’t seem to enjoy it and I’m still left in a state of curiosity. 🤷

6/5 stars… This book was a clear standout from the pack. I think I most appreciated the fact that it was high fantasy but so accessible. Complex yet very understandable. The scope of the book is just so good. Super annoyed there isn’t the second out already. If you haven’t started, first, plan to… but also maybe wait until the second one is out. You’ll need to keep going.

Essential reading to get a base understanding of prayer. Too many ppl lose their faith over unanswered prayer and suffering. This book is one of the best offering of understanding to this intensely hard subject for believers.

Not as many layers as What Lies In the Woods (my only 5 star thriller from 2023), but still a well written mystery.  Will not stand out this year from the pack.
