My second Colleen Hoover book and probably my last. I understand why people like her books. You can fall into the story with ease and her books fly by as the writing is not necessarily addictive but fluid where it can be hard to find a spot to break and put it down.
Okay now the negatives. For starters, there was an absurd amount of sex for a thriller. It often felt unnecessary and repetitive. It was boring and took up at least a quarter of the book. My second issue was the twists. I think this book was too hyped up for me because I honestly was expecting way more. I was never really shocked or surprised, not that I necessarily predicted everything, just that the book was never gripping enough for me to care about the characters. Also minor gripe, I got this from my library after a 7 month wait. It wasn’t worth that kind of wait, the hype or my time. It’s unfortunately mediocre
I cannot believe the host by Stephanie Meyer will be my favourite book of the year. But it really checked every box. And of course like the twilight series, the writing style is addictive. The story flies by and the 600 pages feel like 100.
Unfamiliar is an absolutely adorable Halloween read. It has a vibrant and loveable cast of characters. Despite the story being relatively short, I found the development of the characters and their friendships believable. Having been a fan of the author's work before I went into this book knowing her talent for creating cute and well-designed characters, and of course I was completely sucked into the atmosphere and setting from the very first page. I'll be eagerly awaiting volume 2.
