If you like horror, battle and romance this is the book for you. For it being a romance, the swooning is very toxic and untraditional so trigger warning going in. I love the characters and the universe that this author brings. I like the romance, but it isn't my main pull for the good.
The main premise and universe is a world divided between two courts, and the main character being kidnapped and brought into the world to keep it from being destroyed. A very DARK version of the retelling of Hades and Persephone. The attraction feels genuine, but I have become more invested in the secondary characters in this book then the main love story.
This book surrounds itself in romantic comedy and fun happenstance. It’s a cute read with love able characters and a great plot.
This book has a strong emphasis on character building then world building which I think plays well as I was entrapped by them all. It has love and laughs and is a great coming of age story mixed with fantasy. Very relatable to how young love can often start out
This twisted tale series is a good opening point for young readers. This book was fun and light hearted, but definitely more of a juvenile fantasy then young adult. The writing style and character arch's were smooth and well paced, as well as kept with the fantasy as a continuation of the original story line. An easy same day read.
The connection is based in the authors universe in a series, but can be read as a stand alone. This is the first romance book in while that I have loved with a perfect amount of steamy romance, smut, and character building. The premise of the book really connected with me and is definitely for those who are seeking new adult stories where the MC isn't a fresh and perfect skinny 18 year old. The love story in this is realy and emotional.
This is the second book in between dawn and dusk, but doesn't require much context from the pervious book. I enjoyed the plot and the main story line and characters, but it felt a little disjointed at times. A lot of steamy scenes, but can feel a little misplaced with the plot. It feels like the first draft of a fan fiction at sometimes which can make it hard to read, but overall a decent book to get spice with a story line.
The book is a first person omniscient read, but bounces often between POVS. It can often be hard to keep up with as the POV changes in the middle of paragraphs. This story is based on a fantasy of star crossed lovers in the mist of dreams. It chase good spice and scenes that are steamy. Yet the plot itself leaves you wanting more. The character development also isn’t as natural as I’d want it. A good read for something easy and for those wanting steamy romance.
The Deception of Guinevere is an Arthurian telling of life after the sword in the stone. We meeting Guinevere who is a changeling and capable of magic. Sent to protect Arthur and Camelot, but at the price of being a wife and being kept secret due to magic being banned throughout. This retelling doesn't require prior knowledge of Arthur and legends of him which makes it less intimidating.
As you progress throughout this book, its a third person POV from Guinevere in how she deals with the relationships, politics, and society around her while trying to protect Arthur. She as the MC is always on alert and tries to navigate the circles around her. This read is a slow burn, but focuses on how she defines herself, her role, and her battle to know who she is and the secrets of herself, Merlin her wizard teacher, and Camelot.
I believe the this Arthurian retelling is a great perspective from a Women in Power. As legends are often told through the perspective of the winners and through men. As this series progresses, I urge the author to open up either more POV's to include more detail of secondary characters and how they have impacted the story. Such as Mordred and even more detail of Brangien. The twist were amazing, yet it left me wanting. I am hopeful and excited for more world building in the next book.
