The concept of a magical cold war overlapping the real Cold War feels like it ought to be a winner, but I don't think this really carries it off: there are too many pieces, and they don't connect together in a satisfying way. We don't get under the surface of most of the characters, which makes it harder to feel like there are interesting stakes; obviously the patriotic American agent wants things to go well for America, for instance, but we don't get much sense of why it matters to him as a person. I was also annoyed that a lot of the plot and character arcs were left unresolved as a hook for "Season Two", which I will not be bothering with.
