I feel bad giving this under 4 stars but well.
I'm a transmigration novel reader and when I saw this I had to read it.
Honestly I don't have any misgivings about the story as a whole, it's as you would expect from the blurb. Mainly its about two people who's lives abruptly took a turn (in a bad way) and they find each other through this book series (inside the book that is). It made me laugh sometimes for sure but other times the characters said such cringe stuff and tried to be poetic ... my tolerance is sort of low when it comes to these things. But that's very subjective, oh and now I get that his eyes were this unnatural green cause of the novels effects but the way he was described... he tastes like mint, his eyes are a peridot green, green green green I wouldn't be surprised if he next bled green too - it was kind of half his character trait besides being grumpy
Also I don't fully get the beef they had going on in the very beginning, when she said she'd push him off a cliff 💀
And after the first meeting their relationship exponentially got worse until the third meeting and with just an apology we're over it? I tell you if he wasn't pretty that would not go the way it did
+ she kept saying she was broken and I cant take it seriously, I'm sorry
Yk what I also didn't need to know what he ate before every kiss, I was kind of holding back puke (ex. "He tasted like onion rings and strong drink and sugared spaghetti")
Sweetheart is also not my fav pet name but that doesn't effect my rating, there's much worse.
But what kinda did really bug me was that he kept walking backwards? What was up with that?

So in summary: overall I enjoyed it, it wrapped up nice but all the little things about the characters that I didn't like chipped away at the rating 🫢
If you like growling, glowing green eyed, grumpy-ish mmc's this might be to your liking
And a fmc that's in her head a lot -she's not fully sunshine yet cause she's broken, yk?
And friendships were also such a big focal point

I sound so negative, it's actually fine TT most of the time
I liked the atmosphere, it actually felt like she was in a magical world 🌸

I guess I shouldnt listen to audiobooks anymore because I lost focus for like 50% of the story - and that's why I won't rate this.
But the 50% I did register I would rate about 3.5 stars. I'm nit a huge horror fan, the idea was fine but still it didn't catch me fully.

I read this at the complete wrong timeee TT
I was just so happy that the
fake dating trope ended so quickly and my worries resolved themselves
.
I also love to see the ugly sides of characters, too perfect people are not my style. But that's not to say that the characters were bad throughout, on the contrary I found them actually so sweet together
(ofc except for the breakup at the end there)

Also the premise of how the three girls knew each other wasn't expanded upon much, not that I mind, but Taylors love life sure is complicated

All in all the reason why the rating is so low is because maybe I'm a little sick of fake dating (although this was well done) + also this was unexpectatdy heavy + I started this right in the middle of a slump and I dragged reading this over a month

I would recommend trying this out

Hmm so they're colonisers and simeon and his brother are in security and military positions ... I don't quite like that. Plus as clever as marielle is she really showed her ignorant side in this one - simeon was supposed to be the critical voice when they talked about immigration and really how she acted grated on me too, but ig this is the point where she'll become more conscious.
I also liked that simeon was self-reflective about himself.
But all in all, these sort of pseudo european historical manga really like the imperialist coloniser setting. I don't see commentary on it often. I think I'm only thinking about it here cause they actually mentioned "illegal" immigration, the colonial rule trying to keep the former colonies under check, the poverty around the red light district. I did change my mind, I'm glad it's spoken of, even if just a little.
