🏰 REVIEW 🏰

Title: The Quince Project
Author: Jessica (mommager) Parra
Rating: 4.75/5

**I was sent an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review**

I would read Parra's grocery list, I'm not even kidding. She brings magic to everything she touches, and this book was no exception.

Probably my favourite part of this book was the character's voice. Parra has a knack for capturing the essence of relateable and troubled characters, and this sentiment extends to their relationships and the plot moving forward. She is such a master of crafting coming of age stories and I know I would read anything if hers going forward!

I loved how she brings her characters to life through the page, and that the cast is all Latinx makes it all the more special. The book is diverse, sweet, easy to read (apart from The Talk scene because I'll admit I teared up a little) and I highly recommend it!!

The Mysterious Death of Katherine Parr: What Really Happened to Henry VIII's Last Queen? by June Woolerton

**A huge thankyou to the publisher for sending me an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review**

This book was dense and disturbing, but also fascinating and mysterious. There is lots of information about Katherine Parr's life, but so little about her death and the subsequent discovery of her body. This book was the first one I've seen which dives into what was done to her after her death.

Like is the case for so many people, especially women, she didn't find peace after her death. The detail describing the mistreatment of her remains was awful yet realistic, and backed up by sources to confirm it. It really made me think deeper about Katherine Parr and her life.

The reason I didn't give this book a higher rating was because of the readability. I've found with historical non fiction to expect dense writing (there is simply so much information to compact into a single book). However, it was this which made me struggle to read it, despite my interest in the topic.

Nevertheless, if you are familiar with these sorts of texts, I'd highly recommend it! Also, cross-checking it helps to make it easier to read and can be compared with theories described in the book.

🌃 REVIEW 🌃

Title: The Dividing Sky
Author: Jill Tew
Rating: 4.75/5

**Thankyou so much to the wonderful, brilliant Jill Tew for sending me an e-arc!**

This was one of those books that I already knew I would love. Jill is absolutely lovely, so to see her words coming to life as a book was such a delight!

Liv was such a badass, and she felt so human amidst all of the chaos taking place around her, and she experienced such a great personal growth throughout the book! I can't sing her praises loud enough.

Adrian was hilarious. The poor guy was trying so hard. He's so angsty and clumsy and heartfelt in a world where he's supposed to be none of those things. And his dynamic with Liv was.. well, angsty and clumsy and heartfelt. This was such a great YA dystopian romance!

Nevertheless, I can't recommend this book enough, and ask that everyone please add it on GoodReads. I'm so proud of you Jill!

What. A. Book!

@oosangoyomi you are such a powerful writer! I'd been looking for a book that delved emotionally deeper than a plot led by tropes and this book absolutely delivered! (For reference, you can still find tropes in there like corruption arcs and whatnot, but in no way did that aid me in knowing what to expect).

This book really did feel like an unapologetic step into the brutal and beautiful world of 15th century West Africa. The main character felt human and therefore understandable, but at other times she could feel almost unattainable for a reader, if that makes sense. She  undergoes experiences most of us can't relate to and her journey felt like that which is told in mythology, so she came to feel almost god-like as she embraced her own identity. I am aware that there are elements of mythology woven into the book, which would have aided this as well.

And another thing, for it to be her debut? I love debuts and for this one to be especially thought provoking and powerful (am I using that word too much?), I am just amazed. It was exactly what I needed.

Thankyou so much for the e-ARC!
