“I understand what it is to know that the room isn’t mine for the taking. So many doors are closed to all but a fraction of us…Why should others be the ones who decide which doors are for me?”

this was DELIGHTFUL!!

Felicity Faircloth has my heart and as for Devon…I love him!! Sarah writes such strong heroines!! No damsels here. The build of this relationship, the clandestine meetings were all just so perfect.

I think one problem that I’ve had with some of these darker historical romances that I’ve read though, is much of the grit is rooted in telling, not showing. Of the ones that I’ve read, I feel like the heroes need to work a *little* harder to convince us they’re as soulless as they think they are in the beginning. But that was really my only issue with it and I could mostly over look it because I loved the rest of this book so much.

How can I not just fall in love with this:

“He lived in darkness.
But there, on the surface, was Felicity, light and hope and everything he would never have. Everything he’s once been promised. Everything he’d once imagined might be his, in a brilliant, beautiful package.”

I feel like so many times in romance we have a Good heroine and a Bad hero and the hero must be brought into goodness by the heroine, but here we have a heroine who steps into the darkness and embraces it and I loved it so! much!

I can’t wait to read more from this series and more of Sarah’s backlist!!
