Ayiti by Roxane Gay

It was a strong, short read. I have been meaning to read something by Roxanne Gay, but kept putting it off. The cover is beautiful. I love the little bit of history between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. I also loved seeing life in Haiti and in the states. I would recommend to everybody.
Animal Farm by George Orwell

This was really impactful. I know this is about the Russia Revolution, but I feel like it’s timeless. It could really be about so many social movements that have occurred [especially the United States]. I felt like the way he uses the animals was the best thing for the story. I just hate that it took me 26 years to read this work.

Short charming. It's a coming to age story for a girl who's a refugee from Syria. She is school age and she comes with her mother. She expresses her struggle with language and customs but still trying to keep her own.

Wow. The ending chapters were wild. I wasn't sure what to expect but I extremely enjoyed this book.

I enjoyed this way more then I expected. I waited for 6 months on my library's libby app for this book, so I am glad it wasn't a flop.
It seemed a little too Gatsby from the movie trailers so I originally had no interest in reading or seeing it. However, after watching it on a plan when I was moving across country it made me want to pick up the series.
I did not care for the point of views of people not Rachel or Nick. I loved the story though. Also, I was a little lost at all the name brands mentioned.

While not a unique idea, it was beautiful written.

This had an enchanting way with words. The story is dark and way better then I expected. I also loved how names were handled. I am ready to read more of Toni Morrison.

The first chapter was slow. However, rest of volume was awesome. First Female Shogun and the start of new government.
