The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

It took me a good couple chapters to really get into the story. I think what frustrated me was the choice for title and the synopsis. I think they could have done better to create more anonymity and let a couple key elements like Evelyn’s roll be more of a surprise. That would allow the reader to find out key plot points right along with the main character (more so than you already do with the story).

Overall I thought it was an extremely detailed book and the story was interesting enough I kept with it to find out how it ended! I really enjoyed the intertwining plots and the constant referencing to discoveries made in the past! It was a really novel idea! I’ve not read anything like it before.

I’m a little lukewarm about the ending but regardless I think it wrapped up nicely.

What a hauntingly beautiful story - especially if you imagine yourself in Addie’s shoes. How would you feel to be forgotten after a day or a glance?

*half spoiler*

I loved the story’s use of memory versus ideas - ideas can be planted deep but memories fade. An idea coaxed to the surface by Addie is stronger than any memory of her could ever be...powerful!

I cannot put into words the experience that was this book. It was magic. How the author intricately and so expertly intertwined 4 different stories to all converge at the just moment...a stunning piece of literature.
