City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

This series really should have been a trilogy, honestly. For a mildly shallow YA series, the first three are perfectly fine! However, this is the one you should just leave on the table. The twist at the end and some of the character choices honestly made me want to bash my head into a wall; I was so frustrated with how the plot AND relationships ended up that this book literally made me stop reading anything by Cassandra Clare.

I remember thinking this was another run-of-the-hill sexy vampire series, but considering all the Absolute Nonsense that every single character gets up to makes Twilight look sane, this is a HARD PASS. Literally no character is likable, it's unnecessarily sexual (which is boring at best and jarring at worst), racist towards Native Americans, and I have to ask: IS THERE NO GOOD ADULT HERE??? NOT A SINGLE ONE BEYOND THE DEAD GRANDMA??? I hated this book in high school and I hate it now.
Literary Theories: A Reader and Guide by

It's a heavy, dense read that I 100% recommend using a copious amount of highlighters for, but if you want to learn / have to learn about literary theories, then this is the best book to get. The essays chosen for this edition are insightful and interesting, though I did purchase this for a university course. Take that context into account if you are going to read this for literally any other reason.
