I’m a sucker for a locked-room mystery/thriller, which was my main motivation for reading this one. Overall, I enjoyed it, but it didn’t pick up pace for me until about halfway through. I appreciated the atmosphere the author created towards the end (probably what redeemed it for me), but wasn’t super invested in most of the characters.

Read in print - too many characters for me to keep straight while listening to the audiobook.

DNF - I tried and kept coming back to this story, but it just didn’t captivate me. Both main characters were in an emotionally down point in their lives and although they each began to discover a love for reading I couldn’t wait any longer for more tangible hope. The mood felt like perpetual gray skies (perhaps this story is just not right for me during the cold and grey winter months). The daughters were also super annoying…let people grieve in their own way.
