not the best cryptid book out there, I'm sure. definitely not as interesting as I was expecting, and the only thing I've been convinced of is that there's almost definitely a large mountain lion/panther population in rural Wisconsin. thrilling.

I used to read this blog a long time ago, and I totally forgot there was a book until I found it at the used bookstore. Just as funny as I remembered, but also knocked me out with the shock of seeing my own psychological workings described by someone else.

on par with Shirley Jackson.. I knew the twist and I still wasn't prepared for the realization.

"...saying ‘fuck’ and ‘shit’ and ‘cunt face’ isn’t as bad as racism or selling drugs. Get real!"

I could honestly read another 1000 pages of Miriam Margolyes just telling stories about her life and talking about which famous people are cunts. I would die for her.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 36%.
this is boring as hell and... listen. it's great when an author can capture a voice. but this is so overwhelmingly British it's actually unpleasant.

oh this was so good. this was so good! just the right side of scary without being over-the-top, the storylines integrated (near) seamlessly... I'm kind of in awe. not that it was perfect, because it wasn't, but that's a damn good book.
(and once again we have a book that taps into one of my very specific fears/fascinations: two-headed snakes!)

I'm glad that trans books are being allowed to get weird, surreal, open-ended, et cetera. I can't say I loved this one, but I appreciate what it's doing. and one of the main characters has the same name as my cat.
