So the protag is more clued in but he's also still learning his trade as ruler of a country. The first section he's not a major player on the political board either, all of which means that he's another fantastic unreliable narrator but also that you're not getting the full picture of the ongoing machinations as the reader. I did love Sophos' journey into becoming a king and how it pushes him to develop as his own person.
