Wow.  I wished more people would have read this prior to the 2024 election.  Can the US devolve into a Gilead (a theocracy where women are reduced, divorce outlawed (but murdering your wife ok as long as you can get away with it and we won't dig too deep), only a few privileged men run it all?  Yeah, should the right people try, and trump isn't the right person, even though oh so many give him that power. And who knows?  maybe some version of Gilead might actually happen.  I hope not.

Anyhoo, there are three protagonists, a teen girl on the run after being smuggled out of Gilead (former US), a girl slightly older struggling to maintain her sanity at her limited future (likely married to some old man with some power), and a woman who, in the past, was a judge who got swept up in the downfall of the US who somehow survived in the rise of Gilead. I do not know if the tv series includes this book or not, I haven't watched it, and really don't want to at this particular moment in time, too depressing!  After we regain our sanity, then maybe I will, but not for at least another 2 years (I hope!) till the midterms hopefully sweeps out one major political party.  Hopefully...
