This was great. It was a lot easier to follow than War of Broken Mirrors due to this story being from 1 perspective. I enjoyed Corrin as a main character and look forward to seeing his potential. The side characters were also enjoyable and worked well in the story.

I love a magic school and this didn’t disappoint. This book does a good job of combining the magic school with an entertaining adventure while still moving along at a brisk pace.

The plot twist and reveals near the end were well thought out but there are still plenty of questions waiting to be answered. It definitely makes me want to continue this series.

My only gripe with this book, and perhaps this is amended in further installments, is the biromantic representation. Obviously Corrin is asexual and that is established organically multiple times. However, we get a single line about him potentially being biromantic that leads nowhere. I feel like it was extremely wasted considering
that if we got more development of Jin and Corrin’s budding romance, it would have made Jin’s betrayal a lot more impactful.
It just bugs me a little when authors vaguely hint at a character's sexuality without actually representing it fully.

I wish I liked this series, I want to like it but it’s just boring and a bit nonsensical.

For some reason I found this story really hard to follow. I was reading the words but none of them made sense in my head. I also felt like Murderbot was kind of a dick in this one?

I enjoyed this one more than the first. It had some funny moments and I enjoyed the reluctance “friendship” between Murderbot and ART. It was nice to see a bit of character development for Murderbot as well. The conclusion to this story was really quick and it felt a bit anti-climactic. Again, I didn’t really care for the side characters at all.

This was disappointing. I went into this with high expectations and while I didn’t hate it, I was expecting a lot more. I liked Murderbot as a character but I didn’t really connect with it. I did not care for any of the side characters and felt like they were incredibly flat. Which is why it made no sense to me when Murderbot starts to care about them. This story lacks a lot of emotional depth. Perhaps it comes down to the quick pace and short book. The writing itself was a little hard to follow.

I hope later installments are better because this series gets a lot of praise.

So much goes on in this book and I listened to it over a long time that it’s hard to keep track of everything that happens. However, what I do remember was enjoyable. The way that Rowe writes inner voice I won’t ever be a massive fan of. Too many questions.
