You know that feeling you get when you read a blurb and you know that book is going to be special? That's the feeling I had with this contemporary-style Sci-fi novel. In this novel, we follow a robot named Annie who is adjusting to a change in the relationship with her human owner, Doug.
Annie is a robot who is Autodidactic - which for people who need to look up what that means like I did, it means that Annie is able to learn from teaching themselves. When Annie sleeps with Doug's friend and has to hide it from Doug, she learns a lot of interesting emotions which come with lying and having secrets.
I LOVED watching Annie grapple with different humans, different robots and most importantly, how she adapts her sense of self once she realises she is allowed more than to simply please Doug. I especially love the way this book made me think about AI and technology in this way and making me think a little about how Doug treats her and the "this feels abusive" "but she IS a robot" "but it's still abuse" back-and-forth I went through as a reader.
I'm so glad this book lived up to my expectations. I will be purchasing a physical copy of this too as I need it on my shelf so I can talk about it to anyone who sees it. It felt so fresh and unique compared to a lot of my recent reads and I beg everyone to read it and tell me what you think!

I'm not a fan of this writing style. I may give it another go in writing instead of audio at a later date

This one was interesting but not in the way I wanted it to be? I'd class this as a psychological contemporary fiction. No horror more just weird.
