Idk why I decided to read this but I really loved it and asked my mom to buy a copy and put notes in it for when she’s gone.

I felt the portrayal of avoidant and anxious attachment styles was so extreme at times that it was off-putting (even more so with the avoidant attachment). As someone with an anxious-avoidant attachment myself, this stood out even more. The author essentially implied that avoidants weren’t suited for relationships because of their attachment style. They also strongly emphasized that avoidant and anxious attachments together were a major "no-go," which I completely disagree with. While it’s our own responsibility to work on healing our attachment style, we’re so much more complex than just that one piece of ourselves. If we’re willing to put in the effort, our attachment style doesn’t dictate the entire relationship.

And don’t even get me started on the idea of codependency being a myth and their take on boundaries.

That said, there were some interesting perspectives on protest behaviors, which I found helpful, and the relationship inventory was a cool concept. Still, overall, I don’t think the positives in this book outweigh the negatives.

I really enjoyed this world and I feel like the two main characters were very solidly thought out, along with the political intrigue. However, I felt like so many of the side characters were simply cardboard cutouts of each other, but we'd get these glimpses into their personalities and I found myself wishing that we had so much more of that because it made them more three dimensional.
I also wish the world building was more fleshed out than it currently was. Even by the end, I was still confused about certain aspects of how the world worked/had questions, though I'm hoping they are answered in the next book.
Overall, I think this was worth the read and I'm so glad I picked up the pretty copy when I did.

I was unprepared for how good this was going to be. I do think this book is best going in blind, kind of like I did, but do check out the trigger warnings as it is a book that explores dark themes.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 45%.
While I was interested in the premise of this it def felt like the author took a lot of creative liberties and pushed reality to unbelievable limits.

I fell in love with every part of this book. I feel like so often our parents aren't people to us and this story follows a girl learning all the trivial things she thinks her mom wants are tied to things that happened when she was younger. And the side plots were *chef's kiss*. This story was beautiful.
