i am glad that i read her shorter prose works after reading the first volume of her letters; it allowed me to truly get a sense of how confessionalist she was, even in her earlier prose.

good for established fans of jackson or those trying to get a taste of her work. gorgeous stories in their own right, but she is at her best within her own collections. the links between each of her stories cannot be underestimated.
