for someone unfamiliar with korean food, you may find yourself skipping over a few parts in the book where food is described. over all a book that looks in depth into grief and the relationship a daughter had with an asian mother. depicts what it’s like growing up with conflicting feelings and uncertainty on your own nationality. i found myself relating to michelle in multiple parts of the book, especially where she describes herself whilst coping with her grief. (sry this review is not articulate at all) the final parts of the book where michele becomes famous felt a bit rushed and it brushed over her feelings of perhaps loneliness or nihilism that she may have been feeling, which was disappointing as she had been doing well. this is to say even if she wasn’t feeling hopeless, the fact is that i don’t know what she was feeling instead of that which is important in memoirs.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 31%.
the writing style was too boring for me, the characters weren’t open to complexity, the overall plot was interesting yet expected
