Found this book a little too slow in places, a little too quick in others. I'm not too fond of Elias and Laia together. But some beautiful language and good aspects to the plot. I love Helene and I love Keenan. I think I"d rather read more through their eyes. Book was pretty good by the end but not the best I'be read

I don't usually shelve re-reads but I had to put this on here. It's been a few years since I last read this book but parts have always stuck in my mind and I completely adore it, darkness and all.

In honor of this novel having a focus on editing I was going to give this book a proper review, detailing all the issues it had and the few good things but by the time I finished the book I was so bored with it that I don't want to. I only completed it in a fit of sheer pig-headedness.

So here have a summary of my issues:

-A lot of the dialogue felt unrealistic
-Skips in the middle of scenes with no sign there will be a change in location or time.
-The whole heroine being familiar thing isn't actually all that accurate. It's just drips of inspiration.
-Dull characters
-The style of the story in general just feeling rather...old fashioned. It didn't fit and that bored me to tears.

Now for the good things:

-Good use of email.
-Easy enough read.
-Book references.

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. I never usually give one star if I've managed to finish a book but jesus. A pretty terrible read.

An enjoyable enough read but with some ridiculous insta-romance in and it's not even linked to her powers.

Top notch chick-lit but that's nothing new from Lindsey Kelk. This time we see Tess in New York and get a special bonus of some of the I Heart ladies popping up. The novel would have still been amazing without them but they added a splash of fun.

Funny, sweet and all around perfect, I loved this book. Lindsey Kelk is the best chick-lit author out there right now and I hope she never stops writing.

DNF

I couldn't abide the main character. I tried to grow to like her but ugh.

Well this book wasn't as horrible as I was worried it was going to be but the good bits and bad bits can easily be summed up in one sentence.

The good bits are the plotty bits that read like a single fantasy novel.

The bad bits are like bad fanfiction skipping over and summing it up.

And it is essentially both novel and fanfiction so it somehow makes sense. But you'll be reading and it's like...a bit is explained quickly but because you've not read the years before it's just like...alright. Simon Snow is based off Harry Potter and just like thar series it can't just be all one book. Also what was with the Twilight-esque scenes?

It was pretty predictable in places but the characters were likable enough and aspects of the plot were really good. But it did feel like the romance and the fact it was only one novel was a bit of a let down. That maybe if you'd been on the journey with them it would work better.

So I wouldn't say this is amazing but it's not terrible either. Enjoy it for what it is and you're fine but don't expect an amazing novel.

My god...this book. Just...it was so awesome. If you loved Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell then this book was even better. So much better, I'm not even kidding.

Lets start with Brandon and Abel. They're great characters, both totally different but you see how their friendship and growing romance works. Sometimes they can be dicks online, I was tutting about them insulting fic but then I remembered I laughed over a friend's recording of her reading a fic of a popular ship we hate and her mocking the heck out of it so I actually can't judge. Anyway Abandon's romance had the perfect build up and I liked them both. Oh and Bec was super awesome too but Miss Maxima seriously made me cringe.

Next point is the fandom. Thank god, the book seriously got fandom right. Squealing, some really cringe-worthy fans, FJ (LJ really, we all know it) and shippy comments and vlogs and cons and RPS . I'll admit to cringing in some places but sad thing is I know some of those moments do happen, it's just still weird.

This book was amazing and funny as anything and everyone must read it.
