Not-your-average fantasy YA lit. I admit it, I judged the book by it's cover. I thought that it's vintage pictures were a gimmicky way of hooking teens who wanted something scary or spooky. The pictures are actually a fun aside, and do very little to enhance the plot or build the characters. The plot is fast-paced and moves swiftly, even picking out the bad guy about halfway through did nothing to diminish my enjoyment. The characters are likeable and protagonist Jacob has the same self-deprecating sense of humor as the character from a John Green novel. This is a fun and fast read, fans of books like "The Night Circus" are sure to enjoy.
