Carrie has a lot of messages behind it. Religious fanatism, misogyny, bullying, and it could be considered a critique on religion (i.e. Christianity) and on bullying, but, at the end of the day, it remains a classic among horror novels, and I'm sure it would have shocked me if I was reading it in the '70s.

This book was definitely something different than what I expected before reading it. Although I understand how controversial it was for its time, and I enjoy the criticism of the author towards the British society and higher class, the endless misogyny -especially of the 10 first chapters- made it irritating to read. Once the story starts moving faster into Dorian's sins, it becomes more interesting. The ending was definitely poetic, but, overall, I expected more than I got from this book.

It by Stephen King

I wanted for a long time to read a Stephen King book, since I really enjoy their movie adaptations. Since It was his most recent success with two movies, I decided to pick this one. However, although I like the detail and depth that goes into the characters that we obviously can't see in the movies, King's writing style tired me a lot and the plot seems to be moving extremely slow.
Perhaps the translation (I don't read in English) of the book was bad, or perhaps King's way of narrating isn't for me, but, unfortunately, I lost motivation and stopped reading it.

This book is a prime example of how I adore Dan Brown as an author so much. The way he combines storytelling with real information, historical facts, and actual places, is remarkable and it's done so effortlessly that it merges well with the plot.
Another Robert Langdon book that mentions religious issues, something that I deeply appreciate, as an atheist myself, and as a person who holds a grunge, let's say, towards Christianity first, and organised religion second. Great plot twist at the end, although some parts of it were kind of predictable.

The last scenes with the King and Bishop Valdespino really touched me, and I'm glad Brown added this plot point so beautifully.

One of the best psychological thrillers I have ever read, with an amazing plot twist that left me hanging with my eyes wide opened like I had seen a ghost. To think that this is Michaelides' first novel makes you wonder what he could be possible to achieve on his next work. Absolutely breath-taking!
