I was so obsessed with the last two books but this one fell flat for me. It might be a personal preference issue as I really hate the whole “I thought I was normal but then discovered I am an ancient powerful being but was cursed to forget” trope.

It’s bothers me every time I’ve come across it in any series, but particularly here because by making Emilia an ancient goddess, the author had to throw out the entire original backstory of Emilia being a normal girl who happened to be a witch in Italy, which the first two books were built on. I truly feel the first two books couldn’t have happened without that being her story, so arbitrarily changing that with her “discovery” felt too convenient to me, almost like cheating.

I loved the original normal-girl backstory SO much, and would have loved to see Emilia rise to power in a more organic way than just discovering her backstory is a lie, her family isn’t her real family, and that she’s an ancient goddess. It ruined the end of a series I’d loved so much.

Ouch. Loved the first one. Not sure what happened here. A lot of whining and creating problems over nothing. The Pirithous drama lasted only 3 pages so it felt like it was tacked on for no reason. Personal thing, but her treatment of her boss / how she behaved at work really gave me the ick.

Didn’t like this book, like it even less after reading about all the drama of the author attacking and harassing POC. Even before that however I didn’t love this book. Never felt connected to any character or plot, Serefin was the only positive thing in the whole book for me. Nadya’s obsession with religion was frankly uncomfortable.
