All telling, no showing. Her overuse of the word “exotic” to describe other countries was problematic. The ending was actually much better than I had anticipated, but overall was bored the entire time I read this. If it wasn’t so short it would’ve been a DNF- I just couldn’t get into it.

I liked the concept and characters. Aside from the godawful name, I did like America. Maxon and Aspen were fine but I just never felt a connection to them or any sense of page turning romance there. That said, I’ll read the second. I’m annoyed nothing was resolved here, especially since there are 5 books I can assume what happens from their titles but it is a bit frustrating. The book felt like it ended out of nowhere. I kept waiting for something to happen and it never felt as if it did.

Devoured and was obsessed with the first two. I still think about THAT scene in the blood forest. But this one just dragged on and on. JLA could’ve cut a good 15% of the book out by removing unnecessary descriptions, repetitions, weird uses of ellipses etc.
And if I ever see “pimpled my skin” as a way to describe goosebumps again, I’ll lose my mind. Once or twice sure, but I lost count.
Also, I see why she left it on a cliffhanger - clearly the fourth book will be the war- but as usual nothing was resolved and it felt cheap and irritating to me. Again, once is one thing, but she keeps leaving endings on a cliffhanger and instead of making me eager for more, I’m irritated.
That said I’ll be reading the next book lol.

Enjoyed it even though it bordered on purple prose for me. I also despise cliffhanger endings so that was kind of a no for me but I’ll be reading the second book for sure.
