The King Is Dead: Stories by Walter Tevis

This short story collection feels deeply, deeply misguided because of how similar a number of the stories are to each other. There are at least half a dozen stories that revolve around a poker hustler
getting hustled.
The sci-fi stories are the clear standouts (excluding the weird incest ones).

There were just too many plot threads that went nowhere or were seemingly forgotten/dropped suddenly. The pacing was also super off with way too much time spent in the beginning 15% of the book and then a super rushed conclusion.
