Down the Rabbit Hole by Juan Pablo Villalobos
3.0
Really interesting book- definitely a unique perspective not only from a child but also from one with such...character. The voice was so fun, all the lines were incredibly well written to the point it didn't matter about the lack of plot. The ending did fell a little rushed and unsatisfying but did make sense for the narrator. And my heart will just have to weep a little bit for Louis and Marie :(

Okay okay maybe I shouldn't have put this off for so long, he is clearly so much better at writing thriller than dark academia. It was the exact opposite of the maidens- thoroughly written, great depth, interesting well-developed characters. One of the best thriller books I've read. I did figure out the twist fairly early but still not enough to spoil it in anyway, I was still completely gripped.
The Library of the Dead by T.L. Huchu
I really liked the main character and the worldbuilding in this story, and the scottish voice definitely made it better especially in Edinburgh .
What didn't work so well was the Library- It was such an amazingly cool idea, but only peripheral to the main story, and not developed as much as it could've been. It did feel a bit jumpy from plot point to plot point but overall still pretty good read.

I'm not usually one for romantasy but this...this was worth it. The wink scenes, the plot, the loveable side characters, character progression, everything was perfection. Especially for a debut novel, you could tell just how deeply researched and well written this was.
Paddington in Peru by Anna Wilson
cute, simple read. Nothing amazing, just a shot by shot of the film but still a nice way to spend half an hour when ill and other books have too much plot and not enough bears

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

I definitel rated this higher the first time I read it, bit.i think I re-read it at the wrong time so it didn't get a fair shot. Of course it's a classic, and for good reason, but this time I couldn't connect to any character or setting and it just felt wishy washy and nothing substantial. It felt like being depressed, which is naturall the point, and i praise it for that but it just felt a struggle to read this time.
The Executioner by Chris Carter
God Chris Carter can do no wrong and this is no exception
Gruesome concept, gruesome execution (ayy), super quick paced, exactly what I needed to get out of a slump
It's not often I really feel for a character in a crime/thriller but I did really connect to Molly and I love the way Hunter did as well.
Was a 2nd killer necessary? Strictly no but did I vibe with it anyway? Yes

A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher
I really wanted to like this, and at another time i probably would've. Gorgeous, funny writing but I just really struggled to get into it. Interesting plot but nothing groundbreaking, definitely needed more development on the magic system. But god did I love Hester

Kill Joy by Holly Jackson
A good quick read, nothing too groundbreaking. Little bit boring and unsatisfying ending

Winter Harvest by Ioanna Papadopoulou

I had really high hopes for this, but the majority was just a quick read, nothing too thrilling. It was interesting to see the interactions between the major Olympians, even in Zeus's stomach and some of the lesser known elements of Demeters story but honestly nothing groundbreaking. And the last 60ish pages were alot more beautiful to read, especially her relationship with Despoina. It would've been good to have more of the elusinian mysteries, or just...more in general. It felt lacking
